GAA news round-up: Brian Dooher will have to settle for a place on the bench when All-Ireland champions Tryone take on Derry this weekend. Despite overcoming a groin injury, the Tyrone captain has not been named in the starting line-up for Sunday's clash at Casement Park.
Dooher was sprung from the bench against Armagh and will expect to play some part against Derry but manager Mickey Harte has named an unchanged side for the Ulster semi-final.
Derry are due to announce their side tomorrow evening.
In disciplinary news, Tommy Freeman’s appeal against an eight week suspension was upheld at a hearing of the Central Appeals Committee (CAC) last night.
The Monaghan forward was initially handed the sanction following an incident in the Ulster football quarter-final against Derry on May 24th.
Freeman’s case will now be sent back to the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) for “reprocessing”.
“At a meeting of the Central Appeals Committee held in Croke Park last night, an appeal from Tommy Freeman (Monaghan) was heard,” explained a GAA statement this afternoon.
“The appeal as submitted by Monaghan was upheld. The Central Appeals Committee decided to refer the case back to the Central Hearings Committee for reprocessing.”
Derry’s Fergal Doherty and Brian Mullan have already had their proposed eight-week bans, arising from the same bad tempered match, halved on appeal by the CHC.
