Tickets for the second U2 concert at Slane Castle later this year were sold out in just 94 minutes today once news broke that Meath County Council had granted a licence for the gig.
Fifty-eight per cent of all today’s sales were across-the-counter in the 65 ticket outlets nationwide. Twenty-two per cent of fans booked over the phone and 20 per cent purchased online.
According to promoter MCD, an ‘on-sale-immediately’ system was implemented following advance-detailed consultation with the Gardaí and Ticketmaster in the interests of public safety. But despite this, queues trailed outside sales agents in Dublin.
The concert, which is set to go ahead on Saturday, September 1st will feature Moby, Foo Fighters, Nelly Furtado and Dara as support acts to U2.
Today’s confirmation of the second concert will be welcomed by the thousands of fans who were disappointed when tickets for U2’s first concert on August 25th were sold out within 45 minutes of going on sale.
