UCD climbed away from the relegation zone after a much needed win at Flancare Park tonight while Longford slipped closer to the danger area.

Paul Doolin's side deservedly won this rescheduled contest - conditions were scarcely better tonight than last Saturday week - thanks to goals from John Martin and his namesake Robert.

Longford began brightly and created a number of chances but their continued profligacy in front of goal - they haven't netted at home since October 19th - cost them when John Martin put the visitors in front just after the half-hour.

To their credit, the hosts pressed forward looking for the equaliser but were caught on the break on 71 minutes, Robert Martin latched onto a Darragh Ryan cross to smash the ball past Longford 'keeper Stephen O'Brien.

The result moves UCD up to sixth while Longford fall to eighth in the table.
