A Ukrainian and a Russian took the principal honours in the 26th Dublin City Marathon this morning,
The men's race was won by Dmytro Osadchy from Ukraine in a fraction over two hours and 13 minutes. First to the tape in the woman's marathon was Zinaida Semenova who completed the course in just under 2'33".
The Donegal duo of Gary Crossan and Pauric McKinney finished as the highest placed Irishmen in 13th and 14th respectively. Tullamore's Pauline Curley was the first Irish woman home.
Some 10,000 runners are taking part in the Dublin City Marathon today. A line-up ranging from elite endurance runners and charity fundraisers to gentle strollers and grown men dressed as cattle are participating in the event, now in its 26th year.
Extensive traffic restrictions are in place across the city and gardaí have advised the public to expect delays and to use public transport where possible.
The weather has not been kind to the runners with driving rain and high winds set to make the race even more difficult.
More than 7,000 overseas visitors from 63 countries are in the capital for the event, generating an estimated €12 million for the city's economy at the weekend. Britain has supplied the largest contingent of over 2,000 runners, while more than 1,000 have traveled from the US and 300 from Canada.
A marathon famed in recent years for the relaxed relationship between runner and stopwatch this year has a Halloween flavour, with organisers calling on runners, joggers and stragglers to take part in fancy dress to raise money for a charity of their choice.
