The UN has handed over to the Afghan government its findings of an inquiry into an US bombing raid on a wedding party in central Afghanistan that killed scores of people.
The UN has no plans to publish the findings but the Afghan government may choose to release them at a later date, a UN spokesman said.
An inquiry team visited the site after the bombing in Uruzgan province and produced a preliminary report whose findings were leaked to the press.
The UN's special representative in Afghanistan, Mr Lakhdar Brahimi, then asked for some of the claims to be further substantiated.
Afghan officials say 48 people were killed and 118 wounded in the air raid on the night of June 30th that the US claims was in retaliation to an attack from the ground.
According to the London Times, the preliminary report found that US forces had cleared any evidence before the UN investigative team arrived, and subsequently the team found "no evidence" US planes were fired upon by anti-aircraft weapons.
The United States has claimed coalition aircraft attacked only after they were fired on.
