Geneva - The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) said yesterday it had suspended aid operations for East Timorese refugees in camps in West Timor after three of its employees were seriously injured in an attack by pro-Indonesia militia.
Mr Soren Jessen-Petersen, the UN deputy High Commissioner for Refugees, announcing the decision, said: "It is regrettable that the militias are allowed to operate with impunity and make a mockery of statements by responsible officials in Jakarta guaranteeing security for aid workers and refugees."
