As a long, humid weekend gets under way, agencies are appealing to people to stay safe and not to let the heat go to their heads.
Warm days will tempt many towards the water, and the Irish Water Safety Association is urging people not to swim alone, after eating or drinking alcohol, or in strange places.
Reminding people that 86 children have perished in accidental drownings in the past 10 years, they are particularly warning guardians and parents never to let children swim unsupervised.
Gardaí began their third Operation Taisteal at midnight focusing on road safety, with particular emphasis on speeding, drink driving, non-wearing of seatbelts and the driving behaviour of young men.
Running until midnight on Monday it will see heightened Garda enforcement activities on all road networks and particularly at high-risk locations and junctions.
Five people were killed in road accidents over the June bank holiday last year.
A Garda spokesman appealed to anyone who witnesses suspected drink driving to report it immediately to gardaí.
The National Safety Council too is warning people not to "get too relaxed" behind the wheel over the weekend. As well as repeating the advice of the gardaí, it says people should set off in good time, plan their journey in advance, take frequent breaks to avoid drowsiness and stay alert.
Perhaps the highest-profile event people will be travel to is the sell-out concert by the man they call The Boss. Bruce Springsteen plays the RDS tomorrow night to an estimated 40,000-strong crowd.
There will be no support acts and Springsteen stomps on to the stage at 7.30 p.m. He'll take charge of proceedings until about 10.15 p.m.
Met Éireann is predicting evening sunshine for the gig, with many areas dry, warm and humid. Air temperatures throughout the weekend are expected to reach into the mid-20s, though things will be a little cooler on Monday.
In Kilkenny the ninth annual Cats Laugh festival began last night and will chortle along until Monday. Described by the Edinburgh Evening News as "the world's number one comedy festival", it sees the return of US comedy legends Dom Irrera, Rich Hall and Lewis Black along with fellow Americans Orny Adams, David Feldman, Kathleen Madiga and David Cross.
The usual Irish suspects will be there, including Jason Byrne, Deirdre O'Kane, Ed Byrne and Dara O Briain. Laughs to be had at various venues throughout the city.
