Luanda - Rebel UNITA artillerymen yesterday pounded sites around the central Angolan town of Kuito and also shelled Malanje, east of the capital, official and relief sources said.
The governor of Kuito, Mr Luis Paulino dos Santos, has taken refuge in Luanda, while a number of aid bodies have pulled out of Kuito, some 600 kms south-east of the capital. Witnesses reached in Malanje, 400 kms from Luanda, said meanwhile that an unknown number of people had been killed and injured in fighting for the town.
