Cornettist Warren Vache (right) is a frequent visitor here, most recently for the Dublin Jazz Society. What's different about his return next week - this time to Renards - is that it's as part of a duo with Brian Lemon (left, on piano) one of the unsung gems of British mainstream jazz. A superb improviser with a vast repertoire of standards to exercise his talents on, the pianist has never had the public recognition he deserves. An appearance with tenor Scott Hamilton on the US Concord label has raised his profile, but it's the current series of beautiful mainstream sessions on the British Zephyr label, often with Vache - there's a new one, Street of Dreams, just out - which has demonstrated what a gorgeous, consistent player he is. They're in Renards next Wednesday and Thursday.
