US and British aircraft bombed Iraqi air defence communications facilities southeast of Baghdad today in the latest air strikes.
The strike targeted four cable repeaters southeast of al-Kut, about 160 kilometres southeast of the Iraqi capital, the US Central Command said.
"Today's strike came after Iraqi forces fired anti-aircraft artillery at coalition aircraft in the southern no-fly zone," it said.
Coalition air forces have launched strikes nearly every day this week in an intensifying campaign targeting Iraqi air defences.
On New Year's Day, warplanes bombed a mobile air defence radar near Al-Qurnah, about 210 kilometres southeast of Baghdad.
On December 30th, the warplanes targeted a mobile air defence radar and cable repeaters near al-Kut.
Military radar sites south of Baghdad were bombed on December 29th, two days after warplanes struck an Iraqi command centre near al-Kut that was linked to mobile surface-to-air missile systems.
