An American couple holidaying in Killarney will be married by telephone tomorrow.
Mr John Dolan is a third-generation Irish-American, and his bride, Ms Dee Hubble, is of German extraction. They had been planning to get married for some time and hoped to marry in the land of his roots, but the paperwork was not completed in time and so Father Stephen Corwardin, an episcopalian priest in Richmond, Virginia, will perform the ceremony by telephone.
An hour later they will go to St Mary's Church of Ireland church in Killarney, where the rector, the Rev Lockheed, will perform a blessing.
Last night Mr Dolan said: "We wanted a quiet wedding between us and God. We didn't want large numbers of people. Ireland may not know that we're married on Saturday next, but God will."
