Nov 8 - Vice-President Al Gore leads in Electoral College by 249 to 246 for Governor George Bush - 270 needed to become president. Florida has 25 electoral votes. Bush ahead by 1784 votes after count in Florida
Nov 10 - Bush lead reduced to 300 after machine recount. Gore gets hand recount in four heavily Democratic counties.
Nov 11 - Bush tries to get courts to stop hand recounts.
Nov 14 - Florida judge allows recounts to continue.
Nov 15 - Gore offers state-wide hand recount and to accept result. Bush refuses.
Nov 17 - Florida Supreme Court stops Secretary of State, Katherine Harris from declaring Bush the winner the next day before hand recounts finished.
Nov 18 - With overseas ballots included, Bush leads by 930 votes. He complains up to 1,100, mainly military ballots, disqualified on technicalities.
Nov 21 - Florida Supreme Court authorises hand recounts but says they must be completed by next Sunday at 5 p.m.
