Microsemi, a US-owned multi-national, announced today it is to create 200 jobs over the next 18 months at its operations facility in Ennis Co Clare.

Earlier this year the company said it was taking on 115 staff at the Ennis facility.

The additional jobs announced today, which are supported by the IDA, are expected to be in manufacturing, sales and technical support.

James J Peterson, CEO of Microsemi Corporation, commended the "day-to-day operational efficiency" of the Ennis plant and called it a flagship facility acting as a gateway between the European and US marketplaces.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Mary Coughlan welcomed the anouncement by saying it is a clear demonstration of Ireland's premier position as a leading location for premium overseas high tech manufacturing investments.

The company's Irish facility, which was established in 1992, concentrates on the manufacture of hi-reliability discrete power semiconductors for the global avionics and aerospace markets.

Microsemi employs around 1,800 staff world-wide and has annual revenue of over €381 million.
