US forces raided a suspected Taliban compound outside Kandahar in Afghanistan earlier today, killing one, wounding two and detaining about 50, US General Peter Pace said at a briefing.
Overnight, coalition special operations forces conducted a raid west of Kandahar, said General Pace, who is vice chairman of the military Joint Chiefs of Staff.
As they were going into the compound where there was suspected Taliban leadership, they were fired upon. They fired back.
He said initial reports indicated one killed, two wounded and about 50 detained, with no friendly casualties. Pace offered no other details on the raid.
