The US government has frozen the financial assets of 27 individuals and groups allegedly linked to international terrorism, US President Mr George W. Bush announced today.

The list includes Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda group.

Speaking at a press conference on the White House lawn, Mr Bush said the move was intended to starve terrorists of funding. "This is a financial strike on terrorism," he said.

Mr Bush said the initial list of 27 organisations included individuals, banks and non-governmental organisations.
