Manila - Philippine government troops have rescued a US hostage, Mr Jeffrey Schilling, who was held by Muslim guerrillas for more than seven months on the southern island of Jolo.
Mr Schilling, who was rescued by troops yesterday on Jolo, where he was kidnapped in August by Abu Sayyaf rebels, will be flown to the northern city of Baguio to meet President Gloria Arroyo today.
Brig Gen Romeo Dominguez, head of the military task force staging an assault on the Abu Sayyaf, said Mr Schilling was rescued in a raid on a guerrilla camp in Luuk town on the island.
Gen Dominguez said fighting was still raging in Luuk.
