US Attorney General Mr John Ashcroft announced today the indictment of 13 Saudis and a Lebanese for the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing and said the attack was inspired, supported, and supervised by elements of the Iranian government.
The indictment explains that elements of the Iranian government inspired, supported and supervised members of Saudi Hizbollah engaged in preparing the attack, Mr Ashcroft told a news conference.
The indictment named no members of the Iranian government as defendants but instead listed 13 Saudis and one Lebanese as suspects in the Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 US service members.
The charges listed in the 29-page indictment included conspiracy to kill US nationals, conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction and a bombing resulting in death.
The indictment followed an intensive investigation into the June 25th, 1996 truck bombing outside a US military barracks in Dharan, which injured more than 350 people.
