Seven civilians, including three children, were killed when US Marines fired on a truck that allegedly refused to stop at a checkpoint south of Baghdad.

The civilians were in vehicles behind a military truck that refused to stop and tried to crash through the Marine roadblock yesterday, an ABC correspondent embedded with the unit reported.

Pentagon officials said they did not have many details of the incident.

Several Iraqi attacks on US forces have occurred at checkpoints. Yesterday a car bomb killed three American soldiers and the two women who had been inside the vehicle north west of the capital, Central Command said.
