Among those who will receive honorary degrees from the National University of Ireland this year are the actor and director Sir Peter Ustinov, the lawyer Ms Gareth Peirce, the GAA commentator Micheal O Muircheartaigh and the Palestinian writer Dr Edward Said.
The NUI senate has announced that it will also confer honorary degrees on Dr Daniel O'Hare, outgoing president of DCU; Prof Adele Dalsimer, vice-president of the North American International Association for the Study of Irish Literature; the former Chief Justice, Mr Tom O'Higgins; the actress Ms Rosaleen Linehan; the former UCD secretary and bursar, Mr Joseph McHale; Lord Lewis of Newnham, former professor of chemistry at Cambridge University; the US businessman Mr Tom Tracy; Father James Good, the Kenya-based priest and former theology lecturer; the managing director of Kerry Group, Mr Denis Brosnan; the Fermanagh businessman, Mr Sean Quinn; the former Supreme Court judge, Mr Seamus Henchy; the Canadian critic Prof W. Hugh Kenner; and the Intel computer firm vice-president, Mr Frank McCabe.
