Lord Hutton has been awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws by the University of Ulster.
The former Northern Ireland chief justice and author of the recent report on the BBC's reporting of the Iraq dossier was given the award in recognition of his services to the university.
Lord Hutton was appointed visitor to the university in 1998, a position which placed him at the head of the internal complaints procedures.
The decision to honour him has been criticised by Sinn Féin. Mr Michael Ferguson, an Assembly member for West Belfast, said: "Hutton has a record over a period of 30 years of representing all that was wrong with the judiciary and the criminal justice system in the Six Counties."
