Argentina defender Roberto Ayala is considering a move to Manchester United from Spanish champions Valencia worth around £14 million, according to reports in the British press this morning.
Ayala, who is expected to play a major role in Argentina's World Cup campaign, has agreed a four-year contract with the English club worth £40,000-a-week, it was claimed.
"There's a more than even chance of me moving to Manchester. You'll have to wait and see," Ayala was quoted as saying. "The Valencia board already told me they wouldn't mind selling me and I agreed with them."
The 29-year-old helped Valencia reach the 2000 and 2001 Champions League finals before the club won the Spanish title last season for the first time in 31 years.
United manager Alex Ferguson is keen to add an experienced central defender to his squad after his team failed to win the Premiership title for the first time in four seasons.
