Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has placed a three tonne vehicle weight limit on traffic on Newtownpark Avenue, an access route used by lorries between Dublin Port and the Sandyford/Stillorgan Industrial estates. The restriction means that heavy goods vehicles will be forced to use either Booterstown Avenue or Mount Merrion Avenue.
The move follows intensive lobbying from local people and a Green Party councillor, Ms Bernadette Connolly, who sponsored a motion at the council won Monday night. Last month a council meeting was disrupted by calls from the public gallery after a similar move on Ms Connolly's part was ruled out of order.
