Verizon Communications announced an increase in its second-quarter profit today on the back of growth in wireless and high-speed Internet subscribers.
The second biggest US phone company said net profit rose to $1.7 billion, or 58 cents per share, from $1.6 billion, or 55 cents per share, a year earlier.
Operating revenue rose 6.3 per cent to $23.3 billion, it said.
Strong sales of wireless and Internet services have helped ease the impact of Verizon's declining traditional phone business.
