Manchester United's Juan Sebastian Veron says Lazio made him "suffer" after he was accused of providing false papers to obtain a European Union passport.
Veron said he was relieved to leave Lazio for Old Trafford and escape the passport scandal engulfing the Italian game.
The Argentinian midfielder criticised the Lazio board for what he sees as their failure to back him when he was cleared by the Italian Football Federation in June.
"Lazio and me should never have ended like this," he said. "None of the Lazio executives arranged a meeting between me and [president Sergio] Cragnotti.
