Veron expected to replace suspended Scholes

Alex Ferguson expects £28

Alex Ferguson expects £28.1 million Juan Sebastian Veron to be fit to face Real Madrid in tomorrow's Old Trafford Champions League showdown.

The Argentine midfielder has not played since picking up a knee ligament injury in the win over Leeds on March 5th but after intensive treatment in Italy last week should be available to replace suspended Paul Scholes.

Full-back Gary Neville is also banned but might not have featured anyway with brother Phil expected to keep the left-back role if John O'Shea fails to recover from the knee injury which kept him out of Saturday's win over Blackburn.

Fabien Barthez was forced off at half-time during that encounter after picking up a thigh muscle injury and is rated a doubt, while Nicky Butt should shrug off a minor leg knock as United look to overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit against the nine-time European Cup winners and current holders.
