Veron tempted by Lazio return

Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has admitted he would be tempted by a return to Lazio.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has admitted he would be tempted by a return to Lazio.

"I respect the executives in Manchester but I can't deny that if an agreement with Lazio could be found, I would be happy. I would return to Italy only to play for Lazio," Veron told today’s Corriere Dello Sport.

Lazio president Sergio Cragnotti, who sold Veron to United in the off-season, has not ruled out the possibility of bringing the Argentine back to his ailing Roman side and the player confirmed contact has been made with his representatives.

"I know that Cragnotti had a long telephone call with Gustavo Mascardi, my agent, who has spoken to me to see if there's a chance of taking me back. I heard from him first at Christmas," Veron said.

"I would be happy to return to Rome because I have a special rapport with the Lazio fans and with my old team mates.

"Leaving Lazio, I never considered going to Manchester for a year and then going back. I'm curious to see what happens in the next few months. In England I am fine but I would never close the door on Lazio," he said.

"The opportunity is there. I will wait to see if Lazio can find an understanding with Manchester. I'll stay in my place, playing football but the club and my manager must decide."

Veron has watched from afar as Lazio struggled this season following his departure and those of Chile's Marcelo Salas and Czech Pavel Nedved, both to Juventus.
