A man who was shot in the abdomen in Dublin in 1999 could not remember getting shot, he told the Central Criminal Court yesterday. Mr Patrick Maughan (40) said he could only recall getting drunk on the day of the shooting and waking up in the Mater Hospital six weeks later.
Mr Maughan, of St Margaret's Campsite, Ballymun, was giving evidence in the case against Mr Jason Blake (26), of Mellows Crescent, Finglas, Dublin. The accused has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Mr Maughan on February 21st, 1999 at Balcurris Road, Ballymun.
Mr Blake also denies six other charges, including causing serious bodily harm and possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life. Mr Maughan recalled going into the Penthouse Pub in Ballymun and getting "very drunk", he told the jury. The trial continues before Mr Justice Smith.
