A MAN WAS left with life-threatening injuries after he was attacked with a sword and a slash hook, a court has heard.

However, Christopher Nagle said yesterday he remembered nothing about the attack, which left him requiring major surgery to his back and lung.

Gavin Sheehan (21), Laurel Ridge, Shanakiel, and brothers John Healy (21) and Shay Healy (25), Ardmore Avenue, Knocknaheeny, are on trial at Cork Circuit Criminal Court in relation to the attack in Knocknaheeny on October 14th, 2007.

John Healy is accused of possession of a sword on the night in question with the intention of using it to cause unlawful injury to Mr Nagle contrary to the 1990 Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

Mr Sheehan is charged with possession of a slash hook with the same intention and assault causing serious harm.

All three men are accused of violent disorder on the same occasion.

The prosecution said all the events related to an incident at Killala Gardens, Knocknaheeny, on October 14th.

It was the State's case that there was an altercation between each of the three accused and Mr Nagle earlier in the evening.

At about 11pm, Mr Nagle, who was with another man, was set upon by Mr Sheehan and the Healy brothers, the court heard.

The prosecution claims that John Healy attacked Mr Nagle with a sword and knocked him to the ground while Mr Sheehan attacked him with a slash hook causing penetrative injuries.

It is alleged that Shay Healy kicked the victim in the head while he was on the ground.

The trial continues today.
