Victim of Laois car crash named by Gardaí

Two young people were killed and seven injured in overnight traffic crashes.

A 23 year old woman died after the car in which she was a passenger hit a telegraph pole on the Ridge Road, Portlaoise, County Laois at 4 a.m. The driver was taken to hospital. Gardaí have named the woman as Ms Eimer Scully of Hawthorn Drive in Portlaoise.

On the Portumna Road near Galway, a man in his 20s was killed after a car left the road at 4.30 a.m. He has not yet been named by Gardaí. Six other passengers were taken to Hospital in Galway following the incident.

This morning’s deaths brings to 165 the number of people killed so far this year on Irish roads.
