The area has been sealed off for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

This is the third violent shooting in the capital in the last two weeks. Joseph Rafferty was shot dead on Tuesday night, and last Sunday week Jimmy Curran was shot dead in the Green Lizard pub on Francis Street.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place later today.
