A man who admitted dangerous driving causing the death of his cousin had the maximum sentence of five years suspended at Dundalk Circuit Court yesterday.

The family of the deceased, Stephen Tallon (22), of O'Donnell Park, Clogherhead, Co Louth, asked that the accused man, Donal Delaney (22), also of O'Donnell Park, not be given a custodial sentence as it would compound their grief.

The court heard that Mrs Kathleen Tallon looked on Delaney as one of her own children. Mr Tallon died after the car in which he was a passenger, driven by Delaney, collided with another car on October 20th last.
