Stoke-On-Trent - Parents have been secretly filmed carrying out violent assaults on their babies while they were in hospital, paediatricians at North Staffordshire Hospital have revealed.
The undercover video operation was used to trap parents who appeared caring in the presence of doctors and health workers, yet who became cruel and sadistic within seconds of being alone with the child.
The findings raised disturbing questions about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or cot death, after eight babies previously believed to have suffered cot deaths were found to have been suffocated.
The report is based on video footage of 39 children, who had been strongly suspected by doctors, social workers and police to be in serious danger of life-threatening abuse by a parent. - (PA)
