Vieira off to Juve - reports

Arsenal's French midfielder Patrick Vieira said today he was probably going to be transferred to Italy's Juventus.

Arsenal's French midfielder Patrick Vieira said today he was probably going to be transferred to Italy's Juventus.

Vieira was widely reported in British Sunday newspapers as saying that he was expecting to be transferred to the Serie A side.

"Contrary to what has been said I have not closed the door on Serie A. I am now waiting for the Juventus executives to contact me personally," Vieira was quoted as saying in the Sunday Times.

Vieira, who played in France's abandoned game against Algeria on Saturday, told the News of the World he was only interested in moving to Juventus.

"I'm only interested in Juventus. When I think of Italian teams I only think of them," Vieira said.

"They called me last season but Arsenal refused to sell me. Now I'm waiting for another call from Turin."

Both newspapers said Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein and Juventus vice-president Roberto Brugetta were locked in discussions about the transfer.

"I have a lot of respect for David Dein and Roberto Begetta and it is very interesting that they are talking about me," Vieira said in the News of the World.

"I will be happy to go to Turin."

The newspaper said the talks between the two clubs could involve a swap for Vieira with Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids.

Davids served a four-month suspension earlier this year after testing positive for the banned substance nandrolone.

Davids denied any wrongdoing.
