Quang Nam - The death toll from floods which struck central Vietnam has reached 116 with one person still missing, but better weather aided relief efforts in flood-stricken areas, officials said yesterday. Another seven people were reported dead since yesterday morning, according to figures from seven provinces and cities affected by the flooding, though officials were optimistic the toll would not rise much more.
"I think we can say the worst is over from the emergency point of view," said Mr John Geoghegan, head of the delegation for the International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies in Vietnam.
