A minute's silence was held outside the Dáil today in memory of the 138 women murdered in Ireland over the last 11 years.

An installation of 138 large black-and-white tiles will hang outside Government buildings, recording the date each of the women were killed. The black tiles represent the 87 women who were killed in their homes.

According to Women's Aid, nearly half of the women were murdered by their husband, ex-husband, partner or ex-partner.

The event marks International Day Against Violence Against Women and the organisation's 16 Days of Action Against Violence Against Women Campaign.
