Aston Villa have accepted an undisclosed offer from West Ham United for David James, the club announced today.
James, an England international, trained with his Villa team mates this morning and was due to travel to London for talks with West Ham officials later in the day.
Steve Stride, operations director at Villa, told the club's official website: "We've accepted an offer from West Ham and it's now up to David James. He's in talks with them."
James joined Villa from Liverpool for Stg£1.8 million pounds in 1999.
Meanwhile, Toulouse defender Bobo Balde's transfer to Celtic has been put on hold as the financially-stricken club have still not found new owners to save them from bankruptcy.
The 25-year-old was expected to sign a five-year deal yesterday with the Scottish Treble winners after protracting negotiations.
But the sealing of the deal was postponed because the name of the French club's new owners has not been announced.
"We are still waiting for new owners who will then be given all the details concerning the players whose moves are on the agenda," Toulouse press officer Luc du Hellen told PA International.
Tipped to join the Scottish side on a free transfer, Balde's move could eventually cost the Scottish giants more than the reported Stg£1.8million fee.
"Transfer fee figures between £1.8million and £2.5million have been mentioned in the French press but the club can't confirm it," du Hellen added.
