THE death has taken place after a long illness of Mr Vincent P. Tobin (63), former press and public relations manager of the Shannon Development Company. Mr Tobin, a native of Clifden, Co Galway, died at his home in Craggataska, Quin, Co Clare.

He joined the sales and catering department at Shannon in 1954 and transferred to the development company nine years later, when Ms Maeve Fitzgibbon became manager of the press and publicity department in New York. In 1973 he was appointed manager of the media department and took part in a number of promotions in North America, Germany and Britain.

Since he retired on sick leave in 1987 he has completed three novels and a travel book, so far unpublished.

The late Mr Tobin is survived by his wife, Orla (nee Timond), three sons and three daughters and by his brothers, Buadach, former head of the Irish College, Carrigaholt, and Joseph, and two sisters.
