Racing: Cousin Vinny rewrote the history books when becoming the first horse to follow up a Cheltenham victory in the Paddy Power Champion INH Flat Race at Punchestown.

Willie Mullins had previously tried to supplement a champion bumper win with further glory at the Kildare Festival and his ill-fated Missed That was his most recent attempt at the double when finishing fourth three years ago.

But the ultra-impressive Cousin Vinny pulled off the feat in scintillating fashion under Mullins' son and champion amateur-elect Patrick.

The 9-2 joint-favourite made eyecatching headway four furlongs out and charged away from the pack entering the straight to post a 10-length victory.

Mullins senior said: "I'm absolutely delighted with him. He looks to be a proper horse, he's got gears and he stays. Apt Approach set a really good gallop but Cousin Vinny went away and that was a hell of a performance.

"I schooled him the other morning and he makes some shape over his hurdles and looks to be something else. I hope he makes up into a top novice hurdler next year and I'd like to think we can go towards the Supreme Novices' Hurdle with him."

Mullins then added to his tally as Ruby Walsh came late and fast aboard Freds Benefit to claim the Three.ie Novice Chase, to extend his lead over Davy Russell in the jockeys' championship.

The latter had eaten into Walsh's advantage with a win earlier in the day but ended up seven adrift after his rival hit back in the closing event having also taken the feature of the day on Neptune Collonges.

Solwhit was the horse who had closed the gap as the 5-1 chance took the Evening Herald Hurdle for trainer Charles Byrnes.

Byrnes said: "He caught the eye of a few people when he ran at Fairyhouse last time and I think he's a fair horse. He has a bit of speed and you could maybe see him on the Flat, but there's nothing definite decided."

Got Attitude (16-1) proved himself to be well-named as he put in a courageous performance to deny Home Hunter in the Osberstown Developments Novice Hurdle.

Barry Geraghty's mount was joined by the 25-1 chance after jumping the final flight and the pair battled hard through the final furlong before Jessica Harrington's charge crossed the line just a neck to the good.

Paul Pierce saddled his first winner from his first ever runner at the meeting as Here Comes Sally (14-1) scored in the Martinstown Opportunity Final Handicap Hurdle.

Pierce said: "She has never let us down and has been so consistent. She is finished for the season and we will send her over fences next year."

Philip Carberry got the famous family racing name on the scoreboard when lunging late aboard Notable D'Estruval (7-1) in the Ulster Bank Handicap Chase.
