Viridian buys Eco Wind Power

Energy group Viridian has purchased wind farm operator Eco Wind Power from Treasury Holdings for an undisclosed sum.

Energy group Viridian has purchased wind farm operator Eco Wind Power from Treasury Holdings for an undisclosed sum.

Eco Wind Power has 24MW of wind farm capacity and is developing a further 80MW.

In a statement this morning, Viridian said its retail energy business Energia will use the additional capacity to supply renewable power to the all-island market.

By the end of the year Energia expects to have 250MW of renewable energy capacity with a further 82MW of wind farm projects in development.

Harry McCracken, executive director, Viridian Group said the purchase brings the company's renewable contracts and asset development pipeline to over 550MW.

This total includes a further 114MW of projects which are under development by Eco Wind Power.

Viridian owns Energia, Huntstown Power, Northern Ireland Electricity, NIE Energy and Powerteam Electrical Services.

Viridian has a turnover of €1.5 billion and employs around 1,500 people.
