Vodafone said this morning it has added a net 4.5 million new customers in its fiscal first quarter in line with expectations.

Vodafone Ireland said its customers grew by 15,000 during the three months to the end of June, bringing the total of Irish users 2,090,000.

The company said average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) in Ireland was €48.80, down from €51.40 in the same period last year.

Vodafone, the world's biggest mobile phone group by sales, said its overall customer base stood at 186.8 million at June 30th.

The company reiterated its forecasts for full-year revenue growth and profit margins.

The company expects full-year organic revenue growth in the 5 to 6.5 per cent range, with EBITDA margins seen around 1 percentage point lower than the previous financial year. Organic mobile revenue increased 6.4 per cent in the first quarter.

Vodafone has come under fire from investors for uncertainty over how it will cope with slowing growth in its core European markets. Its shares have lagged the DJ Stoxx European telecoms index by 5 per cent this year.
