Vodafone saw its customer base in the Republic increase by nearly 30,000 in the three months to the end of June to bring its total number of subscribers to just below two million.
Irish users continue to use their phones more than their counterparts across Europe with the average revenue per user up 3 per cent to €609 from €591 in June of last year.
By comparison average revenue per user in the mobile phone operator's German operation was €295, €421 in Spain and €432 in the United Kingdom.
Vodafone's Strategy Director Gerry Fahy said the company expected continued growth as take-up of its 3G services increased. He said the sale of 3G handsets accounted for a third of all new sales in June.
"In the month of June alone, more than one third of our new sales were of 3G handsets. This significant take-up of 3G further reinforces the fact that Irish mobile phone users are leaders and not followers when it comes to embracing new technology," Mr Fahy said.
Globally, Vodafone's added 4.1 million customers in the quarter, bringing its total to 165.
The increase in net new subscribers was around 35 per cent higher than the 3.1 million posted in the first quarter last year. That beat analysts' consensus forecasts of between 2.9 and 3.1 million.
"We have seen strong performances across Europe and in the US, and we continue to focus on improving our business in Japan," said chief executive Arun Sarin.
The group was on track to hit targets for the fiscal full year, he added.
Vodafone, one of the most actively traded stocks on the FTSE 100, was 2.4 per cent higher after it announced the addition of 4.1 million customers is its fiscal first quarter.
