Vodafone Ireland had just over 1.7 million users in Ireland at the end of June, according to figures released by the company this morning.
The figures show the company makes more from its Irish customers than it does from customers in the Britain or continental Europe.
Average revenue per user figure in Ireland was €523 in the year to the end of June, compared with a figure of €302 for Germany and £278 sterling from its British customers.
Commenting on the performance of Vodafone in Ireland, chief executive Mr Paul Donovan said the performance was, to a large extent, due to high levels of text and voice use among a relatively young customer base.
"The young, dynamic, communications-oriented Irish customer generates levels of usage for both voice and text which are substantially higher than the majority of their European counterparts," he said.
"Competitive pricing, complemented by high levels of penetration, makes Ireland one of the most advanced mobile communications markets in the world".
