Eircell’S parent Vodafonesays it will review its pay arrangements after shareholders rebelled against directors' bonus packages for a second year running.
"I do accept that the complexity of the policy allows for misinterpretation, and that a significant number of shareholders have abstained or voted against it," chairman Lord MacLaurin told Vodafone's annual shareholders' meeting today.
He did not give details about the opposition to the pay proposals, but promised "a thorough review of remuneration arrangements".
Some shareholders and corporate governance groups have expressed concern about Vodafone's incentive schemes.
It was forced to defend a £10 millionbonus to chief executive Mr Chris Gent at last year's meeting and is the third telecoms company to face opposition over executive pay in the past week, following annual meetings at British Telecommunications and Cable & Wireless.
