ONE OF the best-known hotels in the northwest, the four-star Sandhouse Hotel in Rossnowlagh, Co Donegal, is going into voluntary liquidation due to the recession.

The 55-bedroom hotel overlooking Donegal Bay was once a holiday spot for Mia Farrow and Woody Allen. Former British premier Tony Blair spent childhood holidays there. The hotel, originally a BB and operated by the Britton family for more than 50 years, has been on the market for more than €6 million since September.

The owners said last night it will continue in business under direction of the liquidator, with no loss of the 40 full- and part-time staff jobs. “The existing management and staff will continue with the Sandhouse and it will remain open for business as usual.” The hotel, closed for the winter, reopens on St Valentine’s weekend.
