St Vincent's University Hospital has put visiting restrictions in place following a new outbreak of Norovirus commonly referred to as "Winter Vomiting Virus" which has spread over three wards at St Vincent's University Hospital affecting 20 patients.
The hospital is appealing to the public not to attend the emergency department unless necessary and to curtail visiting patients or bringing children to the hospital.
Hospital Chief Executive Nicholas Jermyn said the visiting restrictions were essential for the safety of patients, visitors and staff.
"Although the number of patients affected is currently low, we know from past experience that without the co-operation of the public this virus can spread very quickly throughout the hospital, causing discomfort to patients and disrupting services," he said. Members of the public who have symptoms such as 'upset tummy' should not attend the hospital but contact their GP in the first instance if they have serious concerns.
