Visitor restrictions remain in place at two hospitals in the south eastern region due to ongoing restrictions to control an outbreak of the winter vomiting virus.

The South Eastern Health Board has reported one new suspected case of the virus among staff at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Carlow. This brings to 34 patients and 16 members of staff the number of people at the hospital suspected of having contracted the virus.

The hospital has been closed to visitors, except in exceptional circumstances. Addmissions have also been curtailed.

No new cases of the virus have been reported at St Luke's General Hospital, Kilkenny where two patients are currently in isolation and one member of staff remains off duty with symptoms consistent with the virus.
