Beijing - President Abdurrahman Wahid of Indonesia probably had a role in one of the two financial scandals he is alleged to have been involved in, according to a parliamentary commission investigating the corruption, writes Miriam Donohoe, Asia Correspondent
The commission's report concludes that Mr Wahid had a role in one scandal and gave false testimony in the other.
The report, which was obtained by Reuters, stopped short of recommending impeachment. A verdict on the report is due from parliament tomorrow. Earlier the Indonesian Defence Minister warned that the military could seize power if political leaders did not end their bickering and focus on running the country.
One of the scandals, know as Buloggate, involves the theft of $4.1 million from the state commodities regulator, Bulog, by people claiming to be acting on Mr Wahid's behalf, including his masseur.
The second, Bruneigate, involves Mr Wahid's acceptance outside government channels of a $2 million donation from the Sultan of Brunei for aid for troubled Aceh province.
