Former Wales captain Rob Howley will lead the Barbarians in next month's clash against world champions Australia at the Millennium Stadium.

Cardiff scrum-half Howley, who won his 50th Welsh cap earlier this season, will lead a Barbarians side featuring star players from all parts of the globe.

Howley had an impressive record as Wales' leader before being replaced by his Cardiff colleague David Young last year, and the Barbarians had no hesitation in offering him the job to tackle the Wallabies on November 28th.

"I am sure that Rob will relish this huge challenge of leading a star-studded international Barbarian side on his home soil," said Baa-Baas coach Bob Dwyer.

Howley added: "To be asked to captain the side containing some of the best players from around the world is something truly unique.

"This will be the eighth time I have played for the Barbarians, but my first as captain. I can't wait to take on the Australians again and I hope I can inspire the team to rise to the occasion."

Injuries permitting, Howley is set to face the Wallabies twice in four days because Wales tackle them at the Millennium Stadium on November 25th.
