Former Galway midfielder Kevin Walsh has been charged with the task of reviving the fortunes of Sligo football after the county board confirmed he will take over from Tommy Jordan on a two-year term.

Jordan stepped down during the summer after Sligo were beaten by London in the Tommy Murphy Cup.

A winner of two All-Ireland medals with Galway in 1998 and 2001, Walsh takes up his first senior inter-county job. Former Sligo stars Paul Durcan, Dessie Sloyane and Paul Taylor will make up the management team.

Meanwhile, Liam Hayes has withdrawn his name for the post of Meath football boss. The former Carlow manager confirmed that the position did interest him but work commitments prevented him going forward.
