The State forecaster says temperatures will be several degrees above average for this time of year with highs of between 16 and 19 degrees.

Last month was the hottest August since the record-breaking year of 1995 and September looks to be following suit.

The sporting front is dominated by Sunday's All-Ireland hurling final between Cork and Kilkenny. The throw in is at 3.30 p.m. and southern routes in and out of the capital are the ones to avoid if you're not a GAA fan.

Elsewhere on the sporting front there are two days of racing at the Curragh with the showpiece event being the Irish St Leger on Saturday at 3.15 p.m.

Saturday also sees the Jameson Liffey descent which is now considered one of the premier marathon canoeist races in the world.

The race starts in Straffan, Co Kildare and finshes in Islandbridge in Dublin with an experienced domestic field expected to enter up to 40 boats.

There are no delays or cancellations on the major bus and train routes reported so far.
